Yuru Camp Pilgrimage Guide: Camping the Real Locations in Yamanashi

Laid-Back Camp (Yuru Camp) is unusual among anime pilgrimage series in that its locations are actual campsites that visitors can book. The series depicts real Yamanashi and Shizuoka campsites with accurate detail, making it a practical camping guide as much as an anime.

Fumoto Campsite

Fumoto Campsite at the foot of Mount Fuji is the series’ most iconic location — a wide open camping meadow with unobstructed Fuji views. The campsite appears throughout the series. Reservations are required and fill quickly on weekends — book through the official website weeks in advance.

Lake Motosu

The Nakajima Camping Ground at Lake Motosu is where Rin’s solo winter camping scenes take place. The viewpoint looking across the lake toward Mount Fuji at dawn — also used on Japan’s 1,000-yen note — is reachable from the campsite. Book through the Yamanashi Prefecture camping reservation system.

Shimobe Hot Spring

The hot spring town of Shimobe near Minobu features in the series as a camping trip finale. Soaking in the onsen after a cold-weather camp recreates the series’ most comforting scenes. The Shimobe onsen ryokan accept day-use bathing visitors.

Camping Gear

The series has driven strong growth in Japanese camping equipment sales. Brands featured in Yuru Camp are available from outdoor shops in Shinjuku and Osaka — Snow Peak and Coleman are among the most popular.

Access

Fumoto Campsite: From Fujinomiya station by taxi (about 30 minutes). A rental car is strongly recommended for visiting multiple Yuru Camp sites across the Fuji area.
