Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday Island in Queensland, Australia, is consistently ranked among the world’s finest beaches. Seven kilometres of pure white silica sand — so fine and cool it never burns the feet even in full tropical sun — curves around a bay of vivid turquoise water. The swirling tidal patterns at Hill Inlet, where ocean and sand mix in constantly changing forms, are among the most photographed natural scenes in Australia.
Hill Inlet
The northern end of Whitehaven Beach at Hill Inlet is where the swirling sand and water patterns form. The colours shift from white to turquoise to deep blue depending on tidal conditions and the angle of light. The classic view from the Tongue Point lookout above the inlet is unforgettable.
