Fernando de Noronha Beach Guide: Brazil’s Pristine Atlantic Paradise

Fernando de Noronha, a volcanic archipelago 350km off the Brazilian northeast coast, is one of the Atlantic Ocean’s most extraordinary travel destinations. Protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a Brazilian National Marine Park, the islands limit visitor numbers to preserve extraordinary marine life, volcanic beaches, and water clarity rarely found in the Atlantic.

Key Beaches

Baia do Sancho is regularly voted Brazil’s finest beach — a narrow strip of golden sand at the base of sheer volcanic cliffs, accessible by a ladder through the rock face. The turquoise water and resident sea turtles make it unforgettable. Praia do Leao is a long, wild beach where loggerhead sea turtles nest every year. Baia dos Porcos features natural rock formations creating calm pools above the open Atlantic.

Spinner Dolphins

A resident school of several hundred spinner dolphins gathers in Baia dos Golfinhos bay each morning at sunrise — one of the world’s most reliable and spectacular dolphin spectacles.

Access

Fly from Recife (1.5 hours) or Natal (1 hour). A daily environmental tax is charged per visitor — the fee increases with length of stay, encouraging quality over quantity tourism. Accommodation must be booked months in advance.
